EPISODE 6: WAR AND MASCULINITY
This weeks conversation is with historian and author DR Michael Jones.
DR Michael Jones, as well as being an author, lectures regularly and has been a consultant for a number of military TV programmes. He has also lead historical and battlefield tours and is a regular contributor to the History of War Magazine.
Regular host Laurence H Johns and DR Michael talk about the effects WWI had, and continues to have, on Masculinity. This is a really moving conversation that spans the topics of the 'Broken Promise' we made to the young men of WWI and the very real effect it has had on DR Michael himself and his family life, and the effect it still has on society now.
They talk about the importance of men to not only acknowledge the 'Dark' parts of themselves, but to also recognise the 'Golden' parts. And this also goes for how we look at society and our history. Yes we have done some terrible things, yes there has been brutality, and yet despite all of that, there have been moments of beauty within it also.
